SHOPPPING

I went shopping for something to wear to Fresh Conference next weekend.

It was haaaard.

I’ve had the flu all week and I wasn’t completely recovered. The bright lights of the shopping centre and all the noises… I usually find clothes shopping a challenge but yesterday it was brutal.

After trying on everything in Myer my energy was spent- but I still didn’t have anything to wear. I trudged through the malls, willing myself to stay optimistic about the likelihood of finding something.

I tried on dresses, tops and pants.
Witchery. Flower. Forever New. Jacquie E. I’d almost given up in Sussan when the salesgirl committed to the challenge.

But the clothes still weren’t right. I was about to leave- it had been hours and I was thirsty and tired. I decided to try one last shop.

In the change room, I said to the sales assistant, “I don’t feel great and I have to find something to wear. Please, can you tell me honestly if this looks bad? Because I have to stand in front of 700 people and I’d rather you tell me now, then have them all think it later.”

She assured me I looked good and I just decided to believe her because it felt like I had no other choice.

At that point, I was physically drained. And feeling a little vulnerable after all the outfits that weren’t right, and all the little change rooms and the mirrors and the semi-nakedness.

I wanted a chai latte and a hug from Brene Brown.

BIRTHDAY CAKE

I arrive home to the eldest two waiting for me on the driveway.

“We made a cake for Nenna, Mum”

It was on my massive to-do list- to make a packet cake and dump some lollies on it. Or go get an ice-cream cake. I wasn’t sure when I was going to do it

They were excited to show me the cake they’d make when they slept over at their aunt’s place.

It was spectacular and I burst into tears.

SIENNA’S BIRTHDAY

Next day was Sienna’s birthday.

But we had to make it through the night first…

Husband-of-the-year handled most of the vomiting so I could sleep. In the morning Sienna told me she didn’t want to do her birthday today. “Can we just wait till I’m feeling better, Mum.”

I feel like life has been more than a little bit challenging lately.

2 Corinthians 4:7- The Message

7-12 If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us. As it is, there’s not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do…
